Eddie and Arlene have DJ’d and MC’d wedding receptions at City View at Sterling Square in downtown Evansville — a historic brick building with high ceilings and one big open room for dinner, toasts and dancing. The Venue

About City View at Sterling Square

City View at Sterling Square is a historic downtown Evansville building turned event space. What we saw working there:

  • One large, open reception room with high ceilings, exposed brick and dark steel beams and columns
  • Tall arched windows along the wall and strings of overhead lights across the room
  • A light stone-look floor that gives the dancing area a bright, defined space, with black-linen tables set around it
  • A built-in overhead lighting rig above the dance floor, so the room already looks like a party once the lights go down

What We Learned Working Here

City View is a downtown reception room, and everything about the evening — introductions, dinner, toasts and dancing — happens in the same space. That keeps the night simple for guests, but it means the room has to change moods on cue. Here is what mattered most from where we stood.

  • With exposed brick, high ceilings and hard surfaces, we keep announcements clear and unhurried so they land at the far tables
  • Guests tend to gather at the tables closest to the dance floor, so introductions and toasts work best when the microphone is handed off right there in the middle of the room
  • We keep dinner and toast volume comfortable and clear in this room, then build the sound when the dance floor opens
  • The bright floor and the overhead lighting rig make the dance floor the obvious center of the room once the house lights come down
  • Tables sit right around the floor, so the move from the last toast into the first dance and open dancing feels natural rather than like a room change
  • The room fills with energy quickly when the floor is open, which is exactly what you want downtown on a Saturday night

Reception & Sound

The reception room at City View is one big open space with the tables set around the dance floor. Sound here is about the guest experience: people should be able to talk over dinner, understand every toast, and feel the energy lift when the dancing starts. With exposed brick, high ceilings and hard surfaces, we keep dinner and toast volume comfortable and clear, then build the sound when the dance floor opens.

  • Announcements paced for brick and high ceilings, so every table catches the words
  • Dinner music that leaves room for conversation
  • Toasts everyone can understand, with the microphone handed over at the right moment
  • Bigger sound and lighting once the floor opens

Nobody needs an equipment list. If the sound is right, no one thinks about it.

From Formalities to the Floor

Introductions, Toasts & Dancing

At City View the formal part of the evening and the party share one room, so the hand-off between them matters. Arlene runs the introductions and keeps the timeline moving; Eddie reads the room and builds the music to get people onto the floor and keep them there.

  • Toasts in the order you choose, with the microphone ready and the room quiet
  • First dance and parent dances, then an open floor while the moment is still warm
